Legal malpractice occurs when a lawyer intentionally or negligently mishandles a case and causes injury to a client. To be successful in a legal malpractice lawsuit, the injured client must show that without the lawyer’s improper actions, the client would have been successful in the underlying case. This is an often-times difficult element to prove, thus making successful legal malpractice cases sometimes difficult to achieve. If successful, the client may recover money damages.
